“I’m not a businessman, I’m a business, man.” - Jay-Z

From his grand contributions to music to success in a plethora of business ventures,  Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has already solidified himself as a legend at the mere age of 43. The entertainment mogul now lands on the cover of the 2013 TIME 100 with New York City mayor himself, Michael Bloomberg, writing the feature article about him.

“Jay-Z embodies so much of what makes New York New York,” Bloomberg pens. “He’s an artist-entrepreneur who stands at the center of culture and commerce in 21st century America, and his influence stretches across races, religions and regions.” (Read the concise piece in its entirety here.)

A few other notable figures on the 2013 TIME 100 include “Titans” Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager) and Michael Kors (fashion designer). Then, leaders like President Barack Obama and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un (hmm…), and icons Beyoncé Knowles, Justin Timberlake, and Michelle Obama.

Singers Frank Ocean, Miguel, and Christina Aguilera make the TIME 100′s artists section.

In related news, earlier this week Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé were named the first billionaire couple in music, in respect to their combined assets. Considering his ownership stake in the Brooklyn Nets and his Roc Nation record label (among other things), plus Beyoncé’s new tour, Pepsi endorsement and H&M collaboration, this all makes sense. Or cents, I should say. However, you may be a little surprised to know that Beyoncé reportedly brings home the most cash. Cha-ching!
